Look…there he is

Yes I’m still alive.  No my computer’s not busted.  For some reason I have not had anything that I have felt blog-worthy about in a couple weeks.  There are things going on…like, I got to play with the band at the new church for a combined service last Sunday and it rocked.  The musicians in the new band are pretty phenomenal.  A sax player in particular, he and I trade solos.  We did David Crowder’s rendition of Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee and freakin’ rocked the house.  So there’s something that’s happened.

Then last weekend I went up to visit my buddy Eric and to have "Game Night".  Game night is where a bunch of guys get together, mostly Eric’s friends from his previous employer and we play multiplayer computer games.  I know you think that sounds like loads of fun, but it really is.  We split up into teams and everybody’s in the same room and you can see the rest of your "team" as you’re playing through the game.  We order pizza and get all hopped up on Cherry Coke and play a shoot-em-up game till about 3:00am.  Loads of fun I tell you.  Yes I’m an uber-geek.

Continuum
The only thing worth mentioning right now is John Mayer’s new album "Continuum".  I picked up this album the other day and have really enjoyed it.  I’ve really liked all of his stuff that he’s put out so far.  Being a guitar player I find his music to be a fairly fresh approach to playing and his song content is clever.  I have to say I go back and forth between being jealous of Mr. Mayer and just enjoying the music.  Yeah I know, ain’t that stupid, but hey…with a few different choices in life, it might not be so far from where I’d be.  I’d like to dream anyway.  Maybe he’d be jealous of me…a beautiful wife who loves me, a great house, great family and friends.  Yeah, maybe that’s it, he’d be jealous of me.  Wait…didn’t he just start dating Jessica Simpson?  Ok, maybe not so jealous of me.

New Demo

Davedrumming2Well it was time for a new In Need of Eve demo.  For those that don’t know, In Need of Eve is an acoustic trio that I’ve been playing with since 1999.  My buddy Danny and I started just the two of us.  We had some good songs starting out, but folks said we were missing something.  We figured out that it was a female singer that we were missing; hence the name In Need of Eve.  Well after playing together for several years Danny moved to Baltimore and we’ve been on hiatus for a while.  We started playing again last year off and on and it’s time we did a new demo.  So it’s just Elizabeth, Dave and I.  Dave’s the percussionist and he’s the one pictured here.  I went to his house last weekend to lay some percussion tracks.  His back room is a great percussion room with nice ambience so we tracked in there.  Here are some shots of tracking.  Yes…he’s playing a bucket in the shot below.  I’m gonna post a couple of the rough mixes for you to hear a little bit.

The second song has the brushes in it.  This demo was just covers, but we’ve got a ton of original stuff. Pretty good I think, but hey, I may be biased.  Does anyone want to hear any of our originals?  Post a comment if you do and i’ll oblige.  Go DAVE!!

These are rough mixes, all standard disclaimers apply, and it’s a demo.  Ok then.

Mini-Vacation to Kiawah Island

September 4th, 2006 Jonathan Payne 1 comment

Sunette and I took a short notice trip to Kiawah Island, SC with my mom this weekend.  She was headed over for work and asked if we wanted to go, so off we went.  Kiawah is a gorgeous barrier island in South Carolina, just south of Charleston.  It’s basically a resort setting with several golf courses, bike trails and a beach of course.  It was a little shorter than we would like, Thursday night to Saturday night, but it was alright.  We had planned to stay until Sunday evening, but Sunette and I had to be back by early Sunday morning.  Oh well.

It was also Sunette’s B-day on Friday so this worked out great.  Happy Birthday honey!  You’re still a fox and I love traveling with you.  I got her a new digital camera for her birthday, a Canon A700 .  I really dig this camera.  It’s got a ton of features and really makes it easy to be creative.  My favorite fun thing so far is the Color Accent feature that lets you choose a color to keep and turn the rest of the pic B&W.  We’ll have fun with this thing.
