Don’t do it. Just trust me. Okay the point needs to be made, and maybe this movie gets its point across. I mean, I walked out of there thanking God for, first of all, that I have old SNL reruns where Adam Sandler is actually funny and, second of all, that my wife and I have an incredible relationship and we love to spend time together. The movie makes the point that "family comes first" and that the "job" and the "boss" are not your family. I get it, I’m thankful for what I have, nuff said about that.
However, the movie stinks and Adam was funny for about 5 minutes. What ticks me off is not how stupid this movie is. No, it was feeling like a gerbil, like Hollywood just plugged in the fomula that was supposed to evoke laughter…then emotion…then everybody lives happily ever after. Let me see if I can illustrate this better. This movie was marketed and hyped. Well, my wife and I don’t really watch television so I missed the hype. No really we don’t. However, my dad wanted to go see it, thought it looked funny. Ok, it’s his birthday and that’s what we’re here for, so here we go. So the movie was hyped so you feel, like a gerbil mind you, that you need to see it. "Beyond" that, pun intended, the movie had kids cussing. Now come on, I know that when I was kid I cussed some, to be cool and all, but when you have a PG-13 movie with kids cussing alot, what message is that sending?
Way "Beyond" that I felt that this movie catered to stupid crass banality. I mean the junk that they did was just not funny. It made me shake my head at what I was watching and at the people around me laughing at it. Am I a part of all this? It really got on my nerves. So it got me thinking about "people" and "media" in general. I mean, is this what everything is boiled down to? Is this our entertainment? What happened when the Romans, for entertainment subscribed to the most base carnal indulgences for entertainment? This movie is no live sex show or real life gladiator, but it sparked these thoughts. It’s one reason why my wife and I don’t watch much television. Honestly it’s one thing that makes me not want to have kids…at all. To be faced with this crap when you don’t have the maturity to put it in its place, you’re practically programmed to think that all kids 6 and older have the right to talk, and dress, however they please; and parents can do whatever the heck they want with no regard to their family or the commitment they made to each other. It’s cool to have multiple parents that are promiscuous and that’s okay cause we all have a right to "find ourselves". That’s what’s being preached.
Sorry….I’m getting off the soapbox. This movie stinks. The writing stinks, however Kate Beckinsdale is teh hawtness. That is the redeeming quality of this movie. Go Kate!! You saved it.
