Reader Bankruptcy

June 12th, 2008 Jonathan Payne No comments
Reader Count

It's been at least a week since I've had internet access.  For the week before that I didn't have much time to check my blog feeds.  So now I'm faced with insurmountable Google Reader "debt".  I'll have to put myself on some sort of "payment plan" that I can manage.  Or do I just claim feed bankruptcy and let all the useful information go completely unheeded?

Shameless Begging

April 16th, 2008 Jonathan Payne 3 comments

Ok, my site’s been loading a little slow as of late, prolly due to all of the audio files that I’ve got in one of the previous posts and the audio files for my CD.  So, I’ll be doing some work on the blog to make it load faster, namely removing those audio files.  I’ll prolly also move to a more streamlined look so it loads a little faster.  I’ll need your feedback on whether you like this layout, kinda earthy, or a more hip style down the road.

With that said, if you visit this blog…like, ever…how about some link love.  I do try to make it halfway interesting by offering photos, video and my own music.  Maybe that’s the problem… he he.  Anyway, I try not to just be a regurgitator of random stuff from the webernets.  So, how about some love.  If you link here, let me know so I can link you as well.

Carry on….

EDIT:  Hmmmmm…is it time for wordpress instead of Typepad?  That may be more trouble than it’s worth.  Maybe just a custom banner and a clean layout.  That means I gotta upgrade.  Dang.

New Toys

March 4th, 2008 Jonathan Payne No comments

I have to admit that I like tech toys. In my last post (oh so long ago) I was contemplating an Apple TV for my B-day. Well, I ended up having a change of heart and just asking for funds for new dress clothes, etc. I need those and i don’t really need the A-TV.

I’m still questioning this blog’s purpose and I think it may change a bit. I’ve always enjoyed photography, had a few courses in college, but I’ve only had a Canon point & shoot up to this point. While Sunette’s parents were here for 3 weeks I helped her dad research DSLR’s, thinking it was for his purchase. Right before they were to leave they said they wanted to get me one for my birthday. Woah. So after all the research I settled on an Olympus e-510. Pretty stacked prosumer camera. I’m pumped.

I’ve been shooting quite a bit with it and am making a point to take photo safaris on the weekends to grab shots. I have a feeling my blog may see a bit of a transformation as I post more photos and videos, in theory anyway.

We also recently got a new camcorder, a Canon HV-20. Super sweet HD camcorder that has been fantastic so far.

So here’s hoping for more posts with some visual attraction. In fact here are a couple of shots I took with it right before her parents left.

Bloggin Client

December 3rd, 2007 Jonathan Payne 3 comments

I’m thinking about moving to a desktop blogging client to manage my blog posts, versus going to the Typepad website. What prompted this is that I can’t get to the Typepad website here in the hospital. I have to use the pretty cool services of WriteToMyBlog. Which is basically a web-based blogging client, but has a few issues sometimes…like not letting me put links in this post for some reason.

I was thinking about using Ecto, it seems to get good reviews. Anybody using a desktop blogging client? Are you scheduling your posts?

Blaaaahhhg

My blog is feeling really blah in the design.  <and everyone says "mmm hmmmm">  So how are some of you guys designing your pages?  Like Dustin for instance.  I mean, that is just a cool looking blog; and Los’ well, what can you say.  Then you get to mine….well, I could use the excuse that I’m a guitarist/fisherman/banker, not a designer; but honestly, I do have better design skills than that.  I just don’t write CSS or WordPress, yet.  So do you guys use templates or is everybody and their cousin on wordpress?

EDIT:  That’s a little better don’t you think.  It’s still not as pimped as Dustin or Los, but hey, it’s a start.

Stupid Busy

December 8th, 2006 Jonathan Payne No comments

That's what I've been since November 5th.  Here's the scoop…my dad's game
company, Zelosport , has been testing out a kiosk in the local mall.  It has
worked extremely well.  All the partners are covering the hours as much as
possible which means lots of overtime.  I work 8 hours at my regular job, then
go work another 4 at the mall, at least 3 days during the week.  Then I'll work
Saturday or Sunday, or both.  Now that's just nuts.  All work and no play makes
Jack a tired puppy who doesn't update his blog that much.

Well, I'm trying WriteToMyBlog to make posts from work.  I couldn't get
Writely, read:  Google Docs, to correctly post a hyperlink.

On a side note, I've got some new recording equipment which will be here
tomorrow.  I've got a song that I need to record and I thought about posting the
progress so you guys could see and hear the work in process.

Now, back to the grind!

Whose to choose?

July 6th, 2006 Jonathan Payne 9 comments

So I’m using Typepad right now, the cheap version, but I’ll prolly upgrade soon for some nicer graphics.  Los  just changed over to wordpress and it got me curious as to why people choose the blog service they do.  Other than price, for those that blog, why do you choose whose you choose to use?
